It’s that furry animal, butterfly tent, bake-off and PA pride time of year! We are into the last few days of the 101st Pennsylvania Farm Show. The show runs from January 7th-14th.
We stopped by on Monday missing the biggest crowds on Saturday and Sunday. There was a trade-off for going on day three. Less crowds for opening ceremonies hunt we did miss some PA Preferred cook-off competitions.
I’ve made quick posts about visits on prior years and some of the great interviews I was able to conduct!

2015 Interview with Food Network Star Chef Aaron McCargo
2014 Visit, tips and interview with Food Network Star Nadia G.
2013 My first visit to the PA Farm show
This year my goal was to check out the PA Preferred™ Chocolate Cake and Cookie/Brownie/Bar Contest Winning Recipes. I’m excited to be sharing 10-year old Zoey Hoover’s award winning Crispy Crunchy Brownie Delights recipe in the upcoming Berks Country magazine! Look for that recipe and story in the January 18th edition.
Let’s talk cheese! As it turns out, we had local creameries take home ribbons. The Farm at Doe Run’s Seven Sisters is amazing (we’ve tried it), Amazing Acres and Valley Milkhouse. Amazing Acres cheese was included in a cheese and beer paring we did with Madame Fromage at Wyebrook Farms.
Yes, I did include a photo of fried cheese curds with sauce. Usually the lines are four wide and 40-50 people deep for these bad boys. While we were noshing away I met a gentleman, volunteering to clean-up the eating area, who grew up at Mama Leone’s kitchen table and has her handwritten cookbook. He suggests it as unpretentious cookbook full of go-to Italian recipes. He had so many interesting stories to share but will be off to the Middle East, for work, in a few weeks. I’d love to interview him… we’ll see.
In addition to the cheese and dairy producers, you’ll want to be sure to visit all the booths that encourage visitors to get-growing in their own yard. Be sure to read the fine print of the Buttered Turnip Puree notecard.
What? You have never heard of or had a stroopie? Well, they are handmade in Lancaster and The Lancaster Stroopie Company supports their community by employing refugees. Watch how they are made!
I have so many photos but only so much time. We didn’t even talk about the velveteen rabbits. You should get in the car and go! Today or tomorrow… go! All the details you will need to get there are here.
