What a funny holiday but in it’s celebration of “love” one can’t help but enjoy the pink and red fluff as we may, on the sly, roll our eyes. We bloom girls had fun getting some lip tips at the Bell Tower. I received the cutest cards from my clients and food blog partners at Moxie House (the sweetest little card in a series of their print media pieces…the card stock, impression and sweet little sentiment on the card is something I would share)
I wanted to share some images of our unplanned dinner out but I only have leftovers. We both had a busy day and by 6 thought we should do something… it was valentine’s day after all and neither of us wanted to cook. Called Stoudt’s Brewery Black Angus and asked that they hold 2 seats at the bar…and so it was, Valentine’s dinner bar side.
Stoudt’s is doing series of special IPA brews. Fourplay was on tap. Dan loves IPA and enjoyed the Fourplay. He recommends for IPA lovers.
This chick tried the beer cocktails and started with a Fat Dog Shandy , a Fat Dog Imperial Oatmeal Stout and ginger ale. The flavor profile, as described by Stoudt’s, for the Fat Dog has an “assertive hopiness of an Imperial Stout with a prominent roasted malt character with chocolate and coffee-like finish.” My assessment, as a beer neophyte, is this the Fat Dog Shandy will be ordered and enjoyed again.
The second beer cocktail was a Scarlet O’Hara – Scarlet Lady and Southern Comfort. With it’s “sweet maltiness and lightly perfumes aroma” this drink was a sipping kind of beer and I’d sip it again.
We started with a cheese platter. Made on premise by the Wonderful Good Market. With options of a single to 5 cheeses we went with 2. The Sadie, a hard aged cows milk cheese rubbed with sun-dried tomato and olive oil, and Mountain Cheese, a part of the swiss family with a nutty notes and aged over 60 days. The cheese is served with candied walnuts and a homemade date chutney that seemed figgy sweet with maybe onion or garlic. We were also served a freshly baked “love knot” and rye bread. The Wonderful Good Market makes the cheese and bread…divine! Love knot note in below photo.
Diner, for Dan, was crab stuffed shrimp on a bed of jasmine rice, steamed vegetables and a sweet cream sauce. I feel in love with my grilled fennel sweet potato risotto. The fennel was a bit tough but the flavor was light and lovely. The risotto…ahhh…what screams comfort food more than mac ‘n cheese, grilled cheese and tomato soup or risotto? This bowl of happiness was served with sautéed greens. The risotto was slow roasted, maple sweetened and cinnamon spiced sweet potato. All I have to show for it are these leftovers and the lovely rose we were given.
Do it. Visit the Stout’s Brewery Black Angus and eat bar side. Maybe we’ll see ya there.
