It’s that time of year for Lancaster Central Market Holiday 2015 must-haves. Folks always ask what they shouldn’t miss on their visit to market. I hope this list helps.
- Big, beautiful biscotti from Prince Street Market at Amish Family Recipes. A perfect hostess gift when paired with tea from The Herb Shop or coffee from Lancaster Country Coffee Roasters (all at market).
- Miesse Candies aren’t just about festive and “snow” dusted trees for stocking stuffers, tucked into a dessert buffet or nestled in a your table centerpiece. Grab a box of butter mints as a hostess gift, a sweet little gift for your overnight guest’s pillow or for each holiday place-setting.
- Stroopies, from Amish Family Recipes, make the perfect gift for your hot tea or coffee drinking friends. Place over your steaming hot beverage and the caramel softens to make your sipping moments extra savory. Stroopies are a traditional Dutch cookie but these are locally made, in small-batches, by a company supporting immigrant workers. Think party favor, hostess gift or a take-away for out of town overnight guests.
- Stuff it, roast it or puree Brogue Hydroponics local squash. I find the Delicata squash is a bit had to find and is such a treasure.
- Don’t forget your cat friends this holiday. Grab some grass from Tulip Tree Hill Farm for your furry pals and fresh greens and onions for your holiday cooking. Fresh greens and onions are perfect when mixed with some holiday leftovers for post-holiday breakfast frittata.
- PA Fudge Company has the perfect gift for the stockings of folks who have everything. Grab a bag of caramel corn for gifts or to freshen up a cocktail bar.
- Apple Cinnamon Bread is a breakfast morning no-brainer. I took this tip from my pal Heather who’s husband is currently addicted to this sweet from Ric’s Bread.
- Always, always have fresh herbs for soups, sauces, roasting and cocktail simple syrups. Period. Grab a bunch of mint, thyme or rosemary from Meck’s Produce.
- Stoltzfus Homestyle Bakery carries colorful jarred treats. It’s simple to pop one open for your dinner or cocktail buffet. If you are lucky you may be able to grab the seasonal sand tarts.
- Pineapple House Creation’s market, work or travel baskets make the best gifts for a loved one or a treat for you. Fill it with market goodies (see items 1-9)!
