For the love of butterflies … and the birds and bees! It’s a PA native plant podcast episode.
I never understood, as a child and teen, why my mom spent so much time in her garden. Weeding? It just didn’t make sense. She would be outside for hours, sitting on her plastic gardening bucket making weed pile, digging, moving things and on it went.
I get it now. It’s the something that reminds me of her. When she visits during summer months she will often tuck things into my garden. I have a hosta garden. Yes, a garden dedicated to hostas with ferns and lily of the valley from Dan’s grandmother’s garden. Most of the hostas were a gift from my mom and are well travelled.
You see, plants are like recipes and stories and relationships.
This week’s podcast guest is Anne-Marie McMahon, owner of Sugarbush Nursery. She talks about why you must kill your butterfly bush right now and what to grow instead, for the love of butterflies! She’s full of helpful garden tips from native ornamentals to unusual kitchen garden additions.

Loved this podcast episode! I learned so much. Wish I lived closer so I could go to Sugarbush in person. And the two hostesses are so funny and cool!

Christina, so glad you enjoyed! I think we will need to bring Anne-Marie back more often!
