It’s called a Painkiller (which is copyrighted by someone, I think). Our first taste of this cocktail was on a visit to the Virgin Islands. I’ve read that the cocktail originated at the Soggy Dollar Bar, located in the British Virgin Islands. Maybe that’s true, maybe not. Either way, the cocktail screams, “you have arrived!”
This is my version. Make a few batches for summer parties and I’m certain it will be a hit.
I almost forgot, if you are to enjoy this libation properly you’ll need one last thing. You must garnish each glass with freshly grated nutmeg.
- 2 ounces orange juice
- 4 ounces pineapple juice
- 1 ounce sweetened cream of coconut
- 2 ounces rum
- Nutmeg
- Maraschino cherry
- Either combine all ingredients in a tall glass and stir or in a shaker and give it a good shake.
- Serve over crushed ice and garnish with freshly grated nutmeg and a maraschino cherry.
