I’ve been telling you since forever (dramatic much?) about some of the best eats in Berks and Lancaster Counties… you know the kind of eating establishments with fresh, local foods that offer a menu to please a meat eater as much as a the plant eater!
You know about the tastings, guest foodie, seasonal dinner menus and events at Wyebrook Farms. You know we live at Stoudt’s Brewery, Johnny’s, Kyma, Black Horse Tavern, Frecon and have been know to visit Say Cheese!, The Bridge Inn, Flanagan’s Pub just to name a few but here is a new favorite of mine. It’s a Friendship Farm Market in Douglassville.
A few friends had been suggesting this new business to me. Luckily, my friends love eating well and often offer the best excuse to nosh…this excuse came in the form a breakfast brainstorming session at Friendship. I arrived early, to nose around. There are many pictures the Market has on-line but the newly renovated space was lovely and quant in person. The 3 areas were broken down into ice cream, local and fair trade gift items and the restaurant that serves teas, hot and chilled coffee specials, breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The colors and interior design lends to a fresh, bright and earthy atmosphere. I shamelessly took i-phone pics. It was very clean and uncluttered … super important to me anyway. Take a food safety class and you’ll start to look at a restaurant in a new light.
Everyone that came in or was eating was hit up for food tips…by me. Yes, I am the person you never want to see when you are dining out. Chances are I will hit you up for menu advice and customer feedback when visiting a new watering hole. This is the word, from the mouths of the phoebe harassed regulars at Friendship for breakfast suggestions …
- Do the breakfast burrito, when it is offered on the menu.
- The chipped beef is über rich.
- The lattes are not foamy but instead creamy and smooth.
- Don’t forget…the breakfast burrito but you can’t go wrong with any breakfast item.
This seems weird if you know I’m not a big meat eater but for some reason, maybe food nostalgia, I kinda love cream chipped beef. And even more illogically when there are no egg-free, meat-free options on the breakfast menu I always look for chipped beef. I hate eggs so breakfast is not my favorite meal. That said I enjoyed my breakfast, coffee with some backbone and time with a friend at Friendship Market. My girlfriend has told me has been back several times and enjoyed each visit.
The waitstaff was very attentive and answered my relentless questions. It was just pleasant to be there! Know that there are vegetarian and meat lover options on the menu and this eatery serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.
In addition to the effort put into supporting local farmers where they can, the owner hosts Tuesday open mic nights and do outdoor fire pits on occasion.
So…. I’m telling you this to tell you that it looks like they also do special themed dinners. Tonight they are hosting an Italian themed dinner! We can’t make it but are hoping you can! Please let me know what you think.
(note to self: must get back to try the fries)
