means turkey surprise because turkey can always be found in my freezer. I’m really trying to clean up and remove the clutter in my life and that includes the freezer. When was the last time you saw the back or bottom of your freezer? I don’t like thinks going to waste so I freeze lots of things… lunch meat, cheese, doubled recipes, and stuffing.
I will often pull turkey and gravy from the freezer to make “turkey surprise.” It’s now one of Dan’s favorite meals. I add a grain, loads of veggies (from a can, freezer or fresh), whatever is on hand and can make space and needs to be used. I prefer to add loads of grains and veggies so I can pick around the meat then bake it or slow cook it. It’s kind of a joke in our house. It sure saves money. It’s the crazy cousin to leftovers… turkey surprise.
Now… if I was cleaver I would have taken a pictures of everything that is in the crock pot right now, arranged them in a grid and started this post with the theme to the brady bunch but I’m trying to clean the house and have loads of pure food work to do. This is what ya get… a pic of the pot. It includes
- turkey lunch meat
- oddball deli cheese
- my in-laws potato stuffing (the dutch style)
- frozen green beans
- frozen veggies leftover from a doubled up batch from a stir fry
- chicken broth (from past chicken soup recipe experiments)
- there was a random container of rice too
- annnddd… i think that’s it … wait, 2 lemons slices. i love the flavor of lemon with chicken
It’s a chilly day here in PA. Dinner will be turkey surprise!
PS there was a bag of miscellaneous fruit in the freezer. I have no idea what it is but looks like some kind of recipe experiment. I plan to put in between puff pastry for “fruit turnover surprise”
tada! after it was done it just needed a bit more salt and spice…and onions and mushrooms. you guessed it, had some in the freezer already sautéed.
