This was our official “First Friday” at Shri Yoga & Wellness Center. We had a wonderful group of folks that came out to share food and company. Our special guest speaker was Suesie Hartman, certified Reiki Master/Teacher with her topic was Reiki & Energy Work – How does it work?
I was pleasantly surprised with the ease and interaction that Suesie had with the group. Suppose it comes naturally to her since she is a Reiki practitioner. She spoke about her 15 years practicing and teaching Reiki. Suesie shared, in this brief intro, the basics of reiki & other energy work and how is can positively affect physical health and mental well-being.
On to the eating and sharing of great company. Places were set and ready for the wonderful array of foods, carefully prepared by attendees.
Here is a glorious plateful of fresh, garden-grown, heirloom tomatoes that just might be the season’s last… (oh let the lamenting begin) fresh caprese salad.
This plate was just so big and beautiful that I had to make a mock place setting… the bowl is about a 16 inch bowl full of all kinds of raw food goodness! This recipe had a bit of heat and it was just right.
This “Purple Mystic Salad” was also the night’s winner for favorite savory dish. Here is a link to the recipe. There is one very important substitution that Linda made to this recipe… this is what she said, “I deleted all the VERY HOT peppers and used 2 tsp dried red pepper flakes from my spice shelf instead. I did not trust everyone there would be into using a fire extinguisher to deal with the throat burning heat as suggested in his recipe.”
Here is a lovely bowl of mango, mint and quinoa salad. yum
The dessert plates were amazing. I have to say that there were too many to choose from as a personal favorite but the crowd spoke. The selection included pear en papillote, Mayan wonder bars, raw chocolate pudding, handmade chocolates, non-flour vegan black bean brownies and … drum roll (the winner)
peanut butter chocolate larabars

ooo.. look a special present for me … when unwrapped there was a lovely, seasonal & local pear with a lightly spiced, nut puree.
This is our guest speaker Suesie doing some reiki work.
