Optional glaze for a slightly cooled cake. Prepare the glaze while the cake is cooling.
  • 1 stick (4 ounces) butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup whiskey or cream
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter until it bubbles. Reduce heat to medium-low and cook until it just turns golden (about 2-3 minutes).
  2. Add the brown sugar, whiskey or cream, salt and vanilla; stir continuously and low boil for 4 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat, pour into a medium bowl, stirring to cool slightly. Spread over warm cake.
